About HETRA


HETRA is the recognised Tenants and Residents Association for the Highbury Estate.

Most of our work is done by a committee and 'officers' elected at our Annual General Meeting by residents to represent the Highbury Estate residents' interests with other bodies such as our landlords the borough of Islington, their managing agents Homes for Islington (HFI), the Police, Fire Brigade and so on. Committee members also hold regular meetings with contractors during major works programs.

HETRA speaks for all residents, whether tenant or leaseholder.

HETRA holds regular open meetings for all residents with more frequent committee meetings.

Following our AGM in January 2012, this year's officers are
  • Chair ............ Lorna Reid of Larchfield House.
  • Secretary .... Sue Boyd of Pearfield House.
  • Treasurer .... Suznne York of Pitfield House.
  • Assistant ..... Richard Rosser of Bushfield House.
Lorna, our Chair, also represents us and Chairs the Area Housing Panel hosted by HFI at which broader housing issues are discussed.

Over the last few years HETRA has not only represented residents but has achieved a lot on our behalf. We have
  • Organised youth work, festivals and the new football pitch.

  • Worked with Groundforce to improve the estate and knock down old bin sheds.

  • Forced contractors to gives us a choice on the mains cabling.

  • Won the campaign for security doors.

  • Worked with Police and HFI to reduce Anti Social Behaviour.

  • Won new bathrooms, toilets and gas fires for residents.


We simply could not have done any of these things without our community rooms which have provided a focus and work rooms for activities and campaigns.

Over the last few years we have been heavily focussed on the various major works programs. Now that the bulk of this work is over we are keen to involve new members who can devote energy to new organising new activities.
